Summer in New York is unlike summer anywhere else in the world. While the weather is hot, the styles are still cool. Books and Magazines I have a particularly lovely couch and I love to snuggle down into its squishy softness in my pajamas and just stay there all day. I consider these days my mental health days. The day usually starts off with a book or a few magazines. I grab a breakfast bar or some toaster treats and fling myself onto the couch with my blankets and pillows. Once I’m comfortable, I settle in for a good morning reading session. Typically I finish up a book or finish flipping through my magazines by midmorning and then it’s time to move around a bit, take care of personal business and grab a snack. But then it’s right back to the couch.

My Shows As far as I’m concerned, being able to record cable has improved my time to relax on the couch considerably. I don’t have to worry about missing my shows during the week when I’m heading off to various meetings or making phone calls or finishing homework. On the weekends, when I relax on the couch, I can watch all of my shows back-to-back. It’s great. Not only are my shows available at my beck-and-call, I can also skip right through the commercials without having to waste up to ten minutes per show as the target of someone’s marketing efforts. It lets me watch my shows faster and then get to more of them in the same amount of time.

My Friends On a day that I’m feeling like sharing my couch, I might invite a friend over. The rule for days like this, however, is that the friend must be ready and willing to do a whole lot of nothing but relax on the couch with me. Perhaps she’ll watch the shows with me or we’ll chat about boys and the happenings of the week. Usually friends come over toward the end of the day when it’s just about time to order a pizza, pop some popcorn and finish out the day with a bang.

Movies Unfortunately, I don’t have much time during the week to get caught up on the great movies that are coming out, so I save them up for the time I relax on the couch. I get anywhere from one to three movies and watch them back to back, preferably with a friend or family member. I love the online movie stores for this sort of thing since I can set up a queue of all of the movies I think I want to see and can enjoy them whenever they come in the mail. It’s less work for me, but plenty of enjoyment, which is always fun.
